Handsfree Operation

Description

Handsfree Operation lets you use your telephone without lifting the handset.

Conditions and Feature Interactions

• Handsfree Operation is only available on some phones; see Feature Availability below for more information.

• For best results:

• ensure that the microphone (on the front edge of the telephone) is unobstructed

• minimize background noise (such as printers, fans, and radios)

• sit within reach of the telephone

• speak at a normal volume towards the microphone.

• If a call is in progress and a directed page is received, this results in a handsfree answerback. Note that if the primary controller fails, the answerback directed page call is lost.

• If an user is currently active on one of their lines and they receive another call on another line, they will hear a short audible ring burst from the speaker. This is only available if the speaker is not in use, therefore, the burst is only heard if the user is on their handset or headset, it is not heard if they are handsfree on the speaker. This applies to all 69xx and 5xxx devices.

• 69xx IP Phones provide a user-selectable preference that controls the audio path (headset or speaker) used during the following scenarios:

• Originating or answering call by pressing .

• Originating or answering call by pressing line keys.

• Originating or answering call by pressing the Redial softkey or hard key.

• Pressing while the call is active on a handset.

• Originating a call from Call History or Contacts.

• Originating a call using a Speed Dial feature key.

• Retrieving a call on hard Hold.

• Pressing the Music feature key when the phone is idle.

Changing the Audio Path preference during a call is allowed but takes effect only when any of the above actions is taken.

For all the other scenarios, pressing toggles the Audio Path between headset and speaker.

NOTE: If the Audio Path is set to Headset and the headset is not connected, then the phone uses the speaker for communication.

Operation

5020 IP Phone, 5207 IP Phone, 5212 IP Phone, 5215 IP Phone, 5215 IP Phone (Dual Mode), 5220 IP Phone and 5220 IP Phone (Dual Mode), 5224 IP Phone, 5312 IP Phone, 5324 IP Phone, Navigator, and TeleMatrix 3000IP Phone, and 5560 IPT

To use Handsfree Operation to make calls:

1. If you wish to use a line other than your Prime, press a line key.

2. Dial the number.

3. Communicate by using the speaker and the microphone.

To use Handsfree Operation to answer calls:

1. Press the flashing line key.

2. Communicate by using the speaker and the microphone.

To hang up while using Handsfree Operation:

• Press Speaker.

To temporarily disable the microphone during Handsfree Operation:

• Press Microphone, Mute, or Mic On/Off.

To re-enable the microphone and return to the conversation:

• Press Microphone, Mute, or Mic On/Off.

To disable Handsfree Operation:

• Lift the handset.

To return to Handsfree Operation:

1. Press Speaker.

2. Hang up.

5560 IPT

To hang up while using Handsfree Operation:

• Press Release.

To disable Handsfree Operation:

• Press Speaker.

To temporarily disable the microphone during Handsfree Operation:

• Press Microphone,.

To re-enable the microphone and return to the conversation:

• Press Microphone.

NOTE: On the 5560 IPT,

• If you press the Left or Right key to switch to a side that does not have a handsfree call, the microphone is disabled. After you press the Left or Right key to switch back to the handsfree call, the microphone is returned to the state that it was before you switched away from the handsfree call.

• if you select a line and then press the Speaker key, the microphone will not be automatically enabled. You must press the Microphone key to enable it.

• if you hold down the Microphone key for more than 1 second, the key goes into "push-to-talk" mode.

To use Handsfree Operation to make calls:

1. Press HANDSFREE or dial the number.

2. Communicate by using the speaker and the microphone

To use Handsfree Operation to answer calls:

1. Press HANDSFREE or the flashing line key.

2. Communicate by using the speaker and the microphone.

To hang up while using Handsfree Operation:

• Do one of the following:

Press HANDSFREE.
or
Press Hang Up.

To temporarily disable the microphone during Handsfree Operation:

• Press Microphone.

To re-enable the microphone and return to the conversation:

• Press Microphone.

To disable Handsfree Operation:

• Lift the handset.

To use Handsfree Operation for a new call:

1. Press . The key is illuminated while handsfree operation is active.

2. Dial the number.

3. Set the phone down and communicate handsfree by using the speaker and the microphone.

To use Handsfree Operation after answering a call:

1. Press to answer the call.

2. Set the phone down and communicate by using the speaker and the microphone.

To hang up:

• Do one of the following:

To disable Handsfree Operation:

To use Handsfree Operation for a new call:

1. Press or tap the Prime Line softkey to go off-hook, and then dial the number.

Or

Dial the number without going off-hook first.

2. Communicate using the Audio Path (speaker or headset) selected on the phone.

To use Handsfree Operation to answer calls:

1. Press or tap the flashing line key.

2. Communicate using the Audio Path (speaker or headset) selected on the phone.
